Why I Built This

Why I Built This

We do too much in the shadows, and we can do so many things.

This site? Built while prepping lesson plans, teaching a class, scheduling social media, and checking content for a full app. Simultaneously. Because that's just Wednesday for us.

People remember how the room made them feel. The lighting that hit just right. The doors open at exactly 8 am. The food that appeared on cue.

What they don't remember is the person who was there at 4 am making all of that happen. The one who rerouted the entire AV setup after we finished setting up.

Why you ask? Because the client decided they wanted the stage on the other side. After the floor plan underwent 21 changes, it was approved last week.

Just a small change. Sometimes clients rewrite what “small” means.

We never leave. We're still there. Dressed in black, holding a coffee that went cold two hours ago, standing in a corner, making sure your event doesn't fall apart, so you look good. You just don't see us because we don't want you to. But we are always watching - like The Police song.

The ops room is sacred. Nobody gets in but us. That's where the real conversations happen. Where we whisper about the fires we're putting out. Where we poke each other to stay awake, laugh at things that stopped being funny three hours ago, and somehow inspire each other anyway because the doors open in 45 minutes and we will get this done.

We always get it done.

60-something combined years of experience in one pitch, and we apparently still weren't experienced enough. Sure. Fine. The record now lives here.

While built by event professionals who needed an outlet for all the angst and frustration. This recording of experience is not just for us. It is for our fellow creative cousins. We have all been around the table a few times.

We work closely with many of you - from the adv and marketing agencies, the PR firms, the production houses. Our stories are the same. The chaos is just slightly different.

We all share the same problem. This site is the family reunion that we didn’t know we needed, and that the events peeps planned, with one hand tied behind our backs.

This site exists because we remember what we did, even if nobody else does. We will remember for each other.

Because the magic deserves a paper trail. Because sometimes you need a place to document the chaos, the brilliance, the absolute audacity of some clients, and the fact that we showed up anyway.

Welcome to Vela Miles. The ops room is open.
